I know I usually share tips for taking and organizing photos, but this week I want to encourage you to use the camera on your phone to take a home inventory.
Sadly, we are surrounded by people affected by wildfires all over our country who have lost their homes and are facing the reality of rebuilding their lives. I hope you never experience such loss, but what if you were in their shoes? Would you be able to sit down in the midst of tragedy and recall every item in your home as you're trying to work with your insurance company? I can barely even remember where I put my keys some days, so I know for me that's a no!
However, having a home inventory could be life-changing. Of course, the more detailed you are the better but if you've never taken an inventory something is better than nothing! Start by spending an hour or two taking video of each room in your home and all of your belongings.
Once you have your completed inventory, upload your video to Google Photos so you can access it from any device if yours was gone. The beauty of a cloud service is that you can access your account as long as you have access to a computer or smartphone, whether it's yours or not.
Then, if you really want to cover your bases you can complete a free "Home Inventory Template" (example) from any insurance agency to include items, year of purchase, price and value. I know it seems daunting, but I would imagine thousands of people wished they would have done this!
I truly hope you never need your inventory, but there's nothing to lose in making it! If you need more motivation, watch this short video.

All the best,
